Aqualung Carbon Capture’s system is a cost-effective carbon capture solution even at small scale and low CO₂ concentrations, such as gas-fired boilers and gas turbines. Aqualung Carbon Capture can provide decentralized solutions to meet the needs of large industrial complexes with multiple emission sources.
Our commercial pilot in Magnolia, Arkansas demonstrated carbon capture at a small emitter. The unit took 100% of the flue gas from a gas-fired emission source. The aim of the project was to demonstrate capture as well as utilization of the captured CO₂ in the battery industry.

Sequestration
Sequestration: onshore/offshore sequestration, pipelines and CO₂ transportation
One of the key challenges in the carbon capture chain is the need to create a link between an emitter and a viable CO₂ sink. Where possible, new CO₂ volumes should tap into existing infrastructure to minimize new capital investment. Development of new carbon capture clusters needs to begin with an analysis of the logistics and volumes involved.
Aqualung Carbon Capture is seeking to provide a full value-chain solution for our customers. We have formed strong partnerships with sequestration providers, CO₂ pipeline operators and CO₂ tankers to cover every mode of CO₂ removal. Our next phase is to jointly identify opportunities to develop new CO₂ capture clusters across the US and Europe, and to ensure that the gas can be transported safely and cost-effectively.

With 5% of the footprint of an amine column, the Aqualung Carbon Capture system can fit into existing plants where space is at a premium and without major modifications to the exhaust structure.
Aqualung Carbon Capture built an R&D test rig on a 250 kW diesel engine, and worked with marine classification societies towards approvals for onboard installation.

Project highlights

Pilot completedCement & lime
Köping lime kiln, Sweden
Lime kilns have no spare steam, which makes amine capture impractical. With SigmaRoc we piloted the technology at Köping, as part of SigmaRoc’s aim to capture all kiln process emissions.

Pilot completedChemicals & refineries
Magnolia, Arkansas, USA
A commercial pilot that took 100% of the flue gas from a gas-fired reboiler at 4.5% CO₂, demonstrating capture from a small, dilute source.

Approval in PrincipleShipping & offshore
Onboard carbon capture
On ships, space is scarce and time off-hire is costly. Babcock’s LGE business has integrated Aqualung Carbon Capture’s membrane into its ecoCPTR® onboard system, which received Approval in Principle from Lloyd’s Register.

Pre-pilots completedCement & lime
Norcem and Colacem cement plants
Aqualung Carbon Capture’s patented membrane has been proven at two cement installations, where the unit operated above its targets.

Pilot completedWaste to energy
Waste-to-energy pilot, Germany
Waste-to-energy plants are small, have limited excess steam and produce moderately acidic flue gas. Our pilot unit in Germany tested the system under these conditions.
